Paper Industry Bentonite

For centuries, instead of calcite, which is a traditional raw material as paper filler material, developed countries now use modified bentonites in the sector.

It is mandatory that the whiteness of the bentonite used in the paper industry is above ISO 85, that it has high swelling properties, and that the free heap density is 0.2-0.3 kg / l. Bentonite must be calcined at 200 ° C in 1-4 mm increments, contain min 80% montmorillonite and absorb at least 10% at 20% relative humidity. The maximum moisture percentage of the structure should be 2%. Bentonite is very important in paper production, in case it is used in terms of pitch control, that is, in the absorption of wood resins, which tend to clog on machines, efficiency at conversion of paper stock into paper and quality of paper. Bentonite also offers useful ink retention features for paper recycling. In addition, acid activated bentonite is used as an active ingredient in the production of carbonless copy paper.

Bentonite surface is anionic and its edges have cationic charge density. Anionic edge bentonites are used in the grinding of crumbs or powder fibers. The high amounts of both soluble and non-soluble anionic contaminants in chemical, mechanical and waste paper pulps cause difficulties in neutralizing the wet end of paper production with coagulants. In these cases, load handling systems that do not require load neutralization are suitable for efficient operation. These flocculation mechanisms involve the direct reaction of the first component with the second component. The adhesion of fine crumbs and powdered fiber particles and fillers is due to retention in a molecular network. One of the most common systems using this theory is the coexistence of bentonite with very little ionic polyacrylamide (PAM).
Relevance
Advantages we provide:
• Karben Bentonite provides excellent adhesion when used with high molecular weight flocculants. PAM used with bentonite generally has high molecular weight and small anionic load. Karben Bentonite behaves like a microscopic sponge, absorbing anionic charged substances.
• Karben Bentonite prevents the accumulation of tar, resins and wax; and provides homogeneous distribution of the pigments.
• Karben Bentonite acts as a superior lacquer by absorbing the dye substances.
• Karben Bentonite increases the amount of production.
• Karben Bentonite has convenient ink removal for paper recycling.
• Karben Bentonite increases adhesion and facilitates draining.
• Karben Bentonite improves wet strength stability.
• Karben Bentonite is ideal stabilizer and suspension agent.
• Karben Bentonite increases the effectiveness of fillers.
• Karben Bentonite is fine-grained, preventing the screens from becoming clogged and contamination due to the resins in the paper pulp.
